Date-stamped : 21 Dec95 - 10:30 Pakistan 'A' v England 'A', 3rd One-day International Sheikhupura. 20 December 1995. Sajid haul ends unbeaten run Pakistan A (248-5) beat England A (115) by 133 runs. England win One Day International series 2-1 ENGLAND A surrendered their unbeaten tour record here as they crashed to a 133-run defeat in the third and final one-day inter- national against Pakistan A. Pace bowler Sajid Shah took six for 43 as England were dismissed for 115 in reply to Pakistan`s 40-over score of 248 for five. It was a disappointing end to a successful tour in which England won the Test series 1-0 and the one-day series 2-1. England captain Nasser Hussain, who picked up the #200 prize as man of the one-day series, must have been hoping for a happier outcome when he won the toss and asked Pakistan to bat. Despite being down to 11 fit players - cricket manager John Em- burey was on duty as 12th man following an injury to Jason Pooley - England were optimistic of a third one-day success, but for once their bowlers did not rise to the challenge. There was a glimmer of hope when Sussex`s Ed Giddins reduced the home side to 43 for two, but the tourists failed to capitalise on the posi- tion. The third-wicket pair of Shakil Ahmed (69) and Asif Mujtaba (62) punished some wayward bowling in a partnership of 118. Essex all-rounder Ronnie Irani eventually dismissed both batsmen, but by then the damage had been done. England needed to score at a rate of more than six an over to win and hopes of a sound start were dashed when Sajid Shah ripped through the top order, taking the first five wickets. Opener Nick Knight was dismissed for nought and was quickly fol- lowed to the pavilion by Irani, Anthony McGrath, Hussain and Do- minic Ostler. At 59 for five there was no way back for England. The only England player to make any impact with the bat was pace bowler Dean Headley, the Kent player striking two sixes in a ca- valier innings of 26 not out. England`s miserable innings came to an end after just 23.4 overs, but tour manager Mike Vockins was far from downhearted. "It was disappointing to lose our unbeaten record but it shouldn`t disguise the many good things that have come out of the tour," he said.
