Date-stamped : 08 Sep95 - 10:29 Tour Match: Surrey v New South Wales The Oval, 6, 7, 8 September 1995 ====> Day 1, 6 Sep 95 Slater has Surrey on the run - Mihir Bose First day of three: Surrey (57-1) trail New South Wales (398-7 dec) by 341 runs THOSE who stayed away from the game to celebrate 150 years of Surrey missed a chance to savour some excellent cricket, even if it all came from New South Wales. Michael Slater, given first use of the wicket, promised to score a double hundred before lunch but clearly got bored when he skied Benjamin after 69 in only 61 balls with a six and six fours. New South Wales, cantering along at five an over, might have scored 500 but Mark Taylor called off the slaughter just after 5pm. This gave us an hour to appreciate the skills of Anthony Stuart. He is clearly more than brisk medium-pace, as the programme describes him, and in two years time could be a handful for many an English batsman.
