Baz Zuiderent and Ryan ten Doeschate scored centuries, adding 232 for the second wicket, on the third day against UAE in Sharjah to give Netherlands the chance of a crucial Intercontinental Cup victory. However, from a commanding position Netherlands collapsed to leave the door ajar for a final-day run chase by UAE.

Zuiderent and ten Doeschate dominated for most of the day in their double-century stand. ten Doeschate led the scoring, cracking 20 fours and six sixes in a typically aggressive 146 off 187 balls. Zuiderent's innings came at a much slower pace and with a lower boundary count, just five fours and two sixes in his 273 deliveries.

Zuiderent ended the day unbeaten on a new career-best, but the rest of the innings subsided badly from 292 for 2. Arshad Ali, who removed ten Doeschate, collected two more scalps while Khurram Khan and Mohammad Tauqir also gained reward for their hard work as seven wickets fell for 43.

But the late collapse has at least kept the game moving forward, which is to Netherlands' benefit as they are desperate for a 14-point victory having conceded a narrow lead to UAE on the second day to miss out on six points.
