India's epic win against the recently concluded Test at Delhi will be rememberd for Anil Kumble's historic feat. But among many other records, a very important fact seems to have missed the attention it deserves. India have beaten Pakistan for the first time in 19 years in a Test (although a decade of that was without any Tests between them) and after a gap of 22 Tests. Pakistan had won 5 of these and the remaining 17 were drawn.
The last time India beat Pakistan was in fact at the same ground where they lost the first Test of the current series, Chepauk, in early 1980. Since then the two teams have played 5 series before the present one.
The following table lists the results of the Tests between the teams, since and including India's last win against Pakistan 19 years ago.
