Fan dies in Bangladesh
Zahid Newaz
No language could describe the excitement of the semi-final
between South Africa and Australia. But it was something more
shocking for fateful, Harsit Kumar.
The 48-year-old fisheries officer in southwestern Jessore
district died of cardiac failure Thursday night as soon as he
heard the tragic words by a television commentator that "South
Africa is out of the World Cup".
He was rushed to a local hospital in the Jessore town, some 250
kilometres from the capital Dhaka, where doctors had nothing to
do for him, except confirming his death.
He left behind his wife, one son and a daughter.
Bangla daily "Bhorer Kagoj", owned by Bangladesh Cricket Board
President Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Saturday reported that
Harsit's body was sent to his village home in Narail district on
Friday where his funeral was held.
Earlier, another Bangladeshi died of cardiac arrest during the
Bangladesh- Scotland match on May 24. He collapsed to a shock
from initial setbacks of Bangladesh side.
However, Bangladesh later won the match securing its first
victory in the World Cup.
