Canterbury cricketer Gary Stead was philosophical about not being
called into the New Zealand team for its post-World Cup tour of
England.
"That's the way it goes. I'm obviously disappointed, but it's out
of my hands, there's nothing I can do," said Stead, who remains
on stand-by in case of injuries.
There had been no indication which of the six stand-by players
would go to England until the selectors named Wellington opening
batsman Matthew Bell, Otago wicketkeeper Martyn Croy, Otago
left-arm medium-fast bowler Shayne O'Connor, and Auckland
leg-spinner Brooke Walker on Monday.
Former test opening batsman Bryan Young (Auckland) was also
overlooked.
"I'll just have to try and prove them wrong," chuckled Stead in
anticipation of another extensive programme next summer.
