SPCL1 Week18 - Parlane smashes 20-year run record

BAT Sports' Kiwi opener Neal Parlane hit a blistering 110 against South Wilts to shatter Robin Smith's long-standing Southern League run scoring record.

BAT Sports' Kiwi opener Neal Parlane hit a blistering 110 against South Wilts to shatter Robin Smith's long-standing Southern League run scoring record.
It took the hard-hitting New Zealander just 47 balls to score the 52 runs he needed to beat the 1,015 aggregate the then 18-year old Smith posted for Trojans in 1982 while he was qualifying for Hampshire.
It was Parlane's fourth century in 15 innings - and his second of the season against South Wilts - for the newly crowned Southern Electric Premier League champions.
And took his tally for the summer to 1,064, scored at an average of 106.40. He also hit eight 50s.
Parlane announced his intentions with two boundaries off the opening over by Alex Senneck and proceeded to smash five sixes and 14 fours in his 110.
He eventually holed out to a diving catch at deep cover by Jamie Glasson and walked off to a standing ovation.
Parlane's innings , which ended immediately after the 25th over drinks break, pointed BAT towards a towering 261-7.
Dave Banks (30) and teenager Ricky Rawlins (35) helped BAT to 261-7.
South Wilts never recovered from the setback of losing Senneck and Glasson to consecutive deliveries from Dan Goldstraw (3-48).
Former Hampshire opener Jason Laney hit 59 but, with Graham Noble (3-23) denting the middle-order, South Wilts were dismissed for 161.
