Big day at top as records go on line

It's a key day in the Southern Electric Premier League, Division 3 promotion stakes, with leaders Alton entertaining New Milton, and Trojans facing Winchester KS at Stoneham Lane.

New Milton will put themselves firmly among the leading pack if they end Alton's seven-match winning sequence at the Jubilee Ground.

Despite some haphazard batting performances, Milton have won their last five games, having twice been edged out in rain-cut affair at the start of the season.

They lie fourth in the table, but can narrow Alton's 31 point lead considerably if they defeat the leaders.

A win for Trojans, 15 points behind Alton, will all but end Winchester's outside chances, but the visitors have Paul Marks and Nigel Bungay back alongside Sussex bowler Billy Taylor.

Second-placed Ventnor, who receive Paultons at the magnificently equipped Steephill complex, have been weakened by the return to the West Indies of all-rounder Chaka Hodge.

Rowledge (fifth) should take advantage of the two top-table duels and beat Portsmouth.

At the bottom, vital relegation points are at stake at the Holt, where Flamingo - minus influential trio Tom Cledwyn, Kevin Brewster and Saints footballer Jason Dodd - play Leckford.
