SPCL3 Week11 - Trojans just a single short

Trojans piled up a massive 270-8, but still lost a remarkable Southern Electric Premier League, Division 3 match by one run to Winchester KS at Stoneham Lane.

They required 16 runs to win off Jimmy Taylor's last over but, despite two early boundaries, finished an agonising one run behind Winchester's 271-4.

Paul Marks hit 115 and shared a 138-run third wicket partnership with Taylor (69).

South African Erasmus Hendrikse (106) and Simon Williams (73) put on 150 for Trojans, whose victory bid was dented by a five-wicket return by Sussex paceman Billy Taylor (5-61).

With Alton extending their eight-match winning start and Ventnor also successful, the defeat cost Trojans vital ground in the promotion race.

Alton took a mere 23.4 overs to zip past New Milton's 169 - Richie Morgan thumping a fiery 90 not out.

Andrew Darnton (79 not out) and Tim Richman (52 not out) led Paultons to 268-5 - but it wasn't enough to prevent Ventnor racing to a six-wicket win.

Lee Brown hit 94, with Neil Westhorpe and Michael Blackman scoring half-centuries.

The father and son combination of Stuart (5-48) and Rob Waite (77) enabled Bashley (Rydal) II to spring a surprise at Havant and climb out of the immediate danger zone.

Flamingo's slumped to bottom place after a 75-run defeat by a John Western inspired Leckford - the seasoned campaigner hit 110 - and lie some way behind their rivals in distress.

South Wilts teenage duo Eddie Abel (5-46) and James Hayward (67 not out) were the Bemerton match winners against Hook & Newnham Basics.
