Jimmy Adams blazed a century to rescue the Hampshire Academy from a worrying 100-5 and set up a crushing 130-run victory over ECB Southern Electric Premier League rivals Portsmouth at the Rose Bowl.
Naqeeb Ali Mohamed (2-33) and James Manning (2-31) had the Young Hawks rocking before Adams struck 111 and shared a 157-run partnership with Ian Hilsum (78 not out) as the Academy hauled themselves out of trouble.
"It was a very sensible innings," praised Academy coach Tony Middleton. "The circumstances were undoubtedly difficult, but Jimmy and Ian dug in, with their stand ultimately winning us the game."
Portsmouth skipper Lee Savident rotated his bowlers, using eight different players in an unsuccessful bid to prevent the Academy reaching 275-7.
The Young Hawks promptly snapped by the prizewicket of Lawrie Prittipaul - snared by David Griffiths off a return catch - and reduced the visitors to 69-5.
Savident (44) and Andrew Locke (27) halted the slide, but Portsmouth's lower order crumbled - the last five wickets falling for ten runs.
Left-armer Luke Merry (4-25) and Mitchell Stokes (3-30) did the damage as Portsmouth crashed to 145all out.
An unbeaten 69 by Tim Lamb, aided by Alex Senneck (28), guided South Wilts to a four-wicket win over Liphook & Ripsley at Ripsley Park.
Steve Riley struck a fine 95 in Liphook's 212 - Paul Draper took 4-35 and Jim Seeary 3-34 - but Tim Wheatley (3-37) had South Wilts struggling at 83-4 (and later 126-5).
Lamb shared an unbroken 60-run stand with Senneck as South Wilts got hom at 213-6.
