Upul Chandana was passed fit to play in the second one-dayer against South Africa on Sunday despite being physically assaulted on Saturday afternoon by two members of the Sri Lankan army during a road-rage attack while driving with his young son.
Chandana was driving in Colombo when he was forced to brake suddenly. The furious passengers in the car behind - later confirmed by the police to be from the army - jumped down from their car and, after allegedly showing their army badges, attacked Chandana, striking him on his left cheek.
Chandana, 32, visited hospital for treatment. A complaint was lodged with the police, and investigations are under way. The army was informed of the incident and an informal apology was made on Saturday evening. Chandana was selected for Sunday's game in the team meeting that evening.
