Morlands was a big manufacturer who ran a company side playing out of a ground at Abbey Park and in 1920 they purchased Glastonbury Athletic Field for their use. A pavilion was errected in 1923 (it was replaced in 1953) and from 1952 through to 1973 the ground staged one Somerset Championship match each summer, and continued to host John Player League games until 1978.
