The Pakistan Cricket Board has said it will be inviting bids for television rights to international cricket played in Pakistan between 2008-09 and 2012-13. The existing deal for TV rights concluded last month.

According to a media release, Pakistan cricket is presently broadcast live on television in more than 50 countries, including all the major cricketing nations as well as the Middle East, South East Asia and USA. The PCB's new package for media rights goes beyond the television to include growing distribution platforms such as broadband internet, internet protocol television and mobile phones.

PCB chief Nasim Ashraf said that in order to ensure transparency, the board will be appointing a forensic accountancy firm, which will give its independent report on the matter of TV rights. The process, which started a couple of months ago, will be completed by September this year.

The PCB is likely to share the first draft of the tender document with the potential bidders later this month. The final document of Invitation to Tender will be formed after a specially arranged road show in June-July 2008 where inputs will be taken from various broadcasters.

In another development, the board has issued a central contract to 260 players and also, decided to increase the stipend of the players. Both of these decisions will be implemented in the next budget
