This time it was England who fell foul of the toss of a coin and a zesty young fast bowler. Beginning the match with a dicky ankle and 30 wickets in 32 one-day internationals, Nehra snatched six for 23 and wiped out England's chase with searing pace and swing - much as Anderson had done to Pakistan. It was, at the time, the third-best analysis in World Cup history - and the best away from the green fields of Headingley. It was also a kick in the guts for England, who had earlier managed to subdue India after a booming overture worth 75 from the first 11 overs. It was Flintoff who silenced the innings: Sehwag got a leading edge and Tendulkar, in ineffable form and hitting with silky ferocity, cut to point just after drinks. After that, the next ten overs produced 21 runs; Flintoff, straight and fast, leaked just nine in his first eight overs. However, Dravid and Yuvraj Singh broke loose, adding a run-a-ball 62, and though England filched four wickets from the last four balls, their spirits were soon flagging again. Knight underestimated Kaif's agility and was run out in the second over of the reply, Trescothick mis-hooked, and as the ball swung under the lights, Vaughan barely survived a mesmeric spell from Zaheer Khan. Nehra then made the key thrusts: in his third over, he induced a bottom-edge from Hussain, then trapped Stewart with an in-swinger; in his fourth, he had Vaughan caught behind with something equally unanswerable. The top six had made 62 between them, and only Flintoff, in his best all-round performance for England, prevented a massacre.
