Darren Gough may have retired from Test cricket, but he remains adamant that he can carry on playing one-day cricket for at least another two years. After his successful return to England colours in Guyana last week, he has now set his sights on the 2007 World Cup.
"I know I can do a good job for the next two or three years and it's a great opportunity," Gough, 33, told the BBC. "I want to keep playing for England and help them achieve their goal of winning the 2007 World Cup."
Gough was forced out of Tests by a long-standing knee injury that could no longer stand up to the rigours of five-day cricket, and when he was overlooked for the pre-Christmas tours of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, many observers assumed his career was finished. Gough, however, was not of the same opinion.
"I know I can still go on in one-day cricket," he added. "I am also only 10 wickets away from reaching 200 one-day international wickets, so that would be nice."
