Graham Manou, the South Australia vice-captain, has been dumped for the Redbacks' three-day tour match against England starting on Friday. The in-form Shane Deitz will take over as wicketkeeper in a move South Australia officials said was based on Manou's recent lack of runs.
Since returning from a stress fracture in his right foot, Manou has played two Pura Cup games, but he managed to score only 3 and 2 against Victoria and 5 and 6 against New South Wales. Deitz stepped in for Manou in South Australia's opening match of the season and batted well down the order from his usual opening position, making 100 not out and 50.
Paul Nobes, South Australia's chairman of selectors, said Deitz had demonstrated he could keep wicket and score runs. "Shane showed us in the first game that he is more than capable of taking the gloves and batting in the No. 7 position," Nobes said. "He has earned this opportunity.
"Graham continues to show he has talent with the gloves, but we need a stronger return from that position in the batting order. We need our keeper to not only keep well, but also to bat well."
Matthew Elliott will vice-captain the Redbacks, who have also been buoyed by the return of Dan Cullen from Champions Trophy duty in India. The tour match at Adelaide Oval will be England's last warm-up before the Ashes begins at the Gabba on November 23.
South Australia squad Matthew Elliott, Daniel Harris, Cameron Borgas, Mark Cosgrove, Callum Ferguson, Darren Lehmann (capt), Shane Deitz (wk), Dan Cullen, Cullen Bailey, Jason Gillespie, Paul Rofe, Shaun Tait.
