Persisent rain caused the second day of the third Test at Old Trafford to be abandoned without a ball being bowled. Even though there was a chance of the match resuming in the late afternoon, the rain eventually had the final say and this evenly poised Test will have to wait till tomorrow to progress any further.
The overnight and morning downpour meant that there was no chance of any play before lunch, but the dark clouds did finally relent in the afternoon, and the umpires held an inspection at 2.30pm.
They decided that the match could resume at 3.45, and the players came out to go through a few warm-ups and stretches. However, before the match could start again the rain returned, and everyone was soon rushing back to the pavilion for cover. The umpires gave up and called play off for good at four o'clock.
