Reon King delighted to be back for West Indies

West Indies fast bowler Reon King is happy to have made a comeback in the one-day squad after a break of four years. King, who made his one-day debut back in 1998 against India, said he was delighted, although not overly surprised, with his current inclusion. He went on to say that he was determined to stabilize his position in the side.

"I think I was mentally prepared," King told The Stabroek Sport at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport. "It did not feel strange, I just felt happy to be back in the West Indies side. I think I need more consistency, there is talk that, generally, I need more consistency in my bowling, obviously in terms of pace, and I think, a bit more variety."

King, 29, played the last two matches of the current triangular VB Series, where his three wickets cost 37 apiece. West Indies did not progress - Australia and Pakistan are contesting the three-match final - and King felt that there was room for personal improvement. However, his career average of 23.78 is far better in 50 one-day matches, with 76 scalps under his belt.

He expressed his disappointment after missing out on selection for the first four VB matches, saying: "I am disappointed for not having played more games. The guys who played the ICC Trophies had to be the ones to start. I did get my opportunity, though. I was very thankful for that and I just grabbed it with both hands."

King praised the assistance he had received from Bennett King, West Indies coach, during his time in Australia. "As bowlers, we saw where we had to improve, and the coach also mentioned to us as individuals where we had to improve our game," he said. "I think that the coach was excited that, yes, there were improvements made. But I think we still have a lot to do."

King will now form part of the Guyana squad which will feature in Round 6 of the Carib Beer four-day regional cricket competition from February 11.
