Singh: off in search of more opportunities Photo © CricInfo Paul McGregor |
Anurag Singh has signed a two-year contract with Worcestershire.
Singh had become frustrated by a lack of opportunities at Edgbaston, and believes his future will be better served across the midlands at New Road.
"I really must play regularly at county level and I am delighted to have this opportunity," Singh explained. "I see them (Worcestershire) as a club with a young squad that can develop and become very successful.''
Singh has shown promise for several years. He was captain of Cambridge University, and scored four centuries as a student. He came to national attention in 2000 with an excellent innings of 85 in the televised NatWest semi-final, at Edgbaston against Hampshire. He also made a championship best of 79 at New Road to further impress his new employers. Now aged 25, Singh knows that it is time to progress from 'promising' to first team regular.
Worcestershire secretary Mike Vockins commented: "We know that several other
counties were interested in signing him and it is a real coup for us that he has
decided to advance his career here."
