Terry Jenner leads leg-spin clinic in Taunton

Thirty of the country's best young leg-spinners will gather at King's School, Taunton, next week to train under the expert guidance of Terry Jenner, the former Australian Test leg-spinner credited with the development of Shane Warne.

The training week forms part of the England and Wales Cricket Board's wrist-spin programme, whose target is to have a wrist-spin bowler in the England team by 2007 and for half the first-class counties to have a contracted wrist-spinner by the same date.

The youngsters, aged between 12 and 21, will train and play against each other in matches during which leg-spin will be the only variety of bowling on offer. The programme runs from Monday 11 August to Friday 15 August.

Thanks to increased funding from the Brian Johnson Memorial Trust (BJMT), four of the most promising young players will be invited to go to Jenner's home town of Adelaide, Australia, in the autumn for two weeks of intensive leg-spin training.

Graham Saville, ECB Development of Excellence Manager, said, "Developing our wrist spin bowlers is an on-going process. There's no doubt that we have some highly talented young bowlers and they will benefit hugely from being taught by Terry, the world's leading leg spin coach."

The ECB wrist-spin programme has been in progress for five years.
