Redbacks wicket-keeper Tim Nielsen has been appointed as Assistant Coach of the Southern Redbacks for the 1999/2000 season.
Nielsen is one of South Australia's most successful and popular players who has captained the Redbacks on several occasions. Last season Nielsen passed Barry Jarman's record number of dismissals taken by a South Australian wicket-keeper, cementing his place as one of the state's most successful cricketers.
"Tim will assist Greg Chappell in coaching the Redbacks squad and will Coach the South Australian Second Eleven and the South Australian Cricket Academy." Said SACA Cricket Operations Manager Harvey Jolly.
The Assistant Coach is a newly created position, in which Tim will also act as Fitness Co-ordinator within the State squad, while also advising elite junior squads and having input into their programmes
"The appointment of Tim Nielsen is another step in the SACA's plan towards making South Australia the leading cricket state and we believe Tim will be a valuable asset as a coach, as he has been as a player." Said Harvey.
Nielsen will retire from First Class cricket to start his new career.
