Another blow for England as Marcus Trescothick leaves the field after fracturing his finger

The news that Marcus Trescothick has suffered a fractured finger capped a miserable day for England in the first npower Test at Edgbaston.
Trescothick was at second slip when he tried to stop an edge from Herschelle Gibbs off a Steve Harmison slower ball. Trescothick went to hospital where an X-ray revealed that he had suffered a small undisplaced fracture to the tip of his right index finger.
No decision has been made as to whether Trescothick will bat in the match. He received ice treatment overnight and the injury will be reassessed today. "He's quite confident and we'll find out more later this morning," explained Duncan Fletcher, England's coach. "It's a pretty minor fracture and it's in his right hand which means it is a little bit hidden away when he bats."
