The United Cricket Board is still looking for a director of coaching following its general council meeting in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Pat Symcox, the former Test offspinner, had been expected to be appointed to the position, but late last week he advised the UCB that he no longer wished to be considered for the post.
"I have several business interests that I want to pursue and I would have had to give them up to take up the UCB post," said Symcox on Sunday. "I'm also keen to become more involved in the commentary side of the game."
UCB managing director Ali Bacher confirmed Symcox's withdrawal. "We'll have to put on our thinking caps again to find the right candidate," said Bacher.
The position became open when its former occupant, Jimmy Cook, resigned to take up the coach's job with Hampshire.
