Once a soldier in the Jamaican Defence Force, left-armer Sheldon Cottrell has been a semi-regular presence in the West Indies white-ball sides since he made his debut in 2013, and is known as much for his elaborate army-salute wicket celebration as for his bowling performances. He also offers athleticism in the field and powerful hitting in the lower order.
Cottrell broke through with 17 wickets at under 20 apiece in the four-day regional competition in 2012-13. In the CPL tournament that followed, he attracted more attention when he took three top-order wickets and finished with 4 for 20 in a game against Barbados Tridents. He made his Test debut in 2013 in India and played his next one more than a year later, against South Africa. In the 2019 World Cup, he was his side's best bowler, with 12 wickets. Cottrell has been a fixture in the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots side in the CPL for the better part of ten years; he took 11 wickets in successive seasons for them starting in 2017, and then went one better in 2019, with 12.
