Recognition from India's selectors came early for Siddharth Trivedi. He made his first-class debut only in the 2002-03 season, and his nippy medium-pace also earned him a slot at the ICC under-19 World Cup in early 2002, where he took nine wickets in seven games. Noticed as one of India's promising youngsters, he won the Border-Gavaskar Scholarship to train for five weeks at the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy in Australia. On his return to India, he was drafted into the ranks of India B for the 2003 Challenger Trophy. Trivedi has continued to be a consistent performer on the domestic circuit, but there are still many contenders ahead of him for slots in the Indian pace attack.
Trivedi gained a lot of recognition during the inaugural IPL during which he was part of the Rajasthan Royals' title-winning side. He earned plenty of praise from Shane Warne, the Royals' captain. However, it was an incident in the IPL that dealt Trivedi a big blow: after news of spot-fixing within the Royals team in IPL 2013 broke, Trivedi told police authorities during the course of their investigation about several approaches he received from bookies but did not pay heed to. He was subsequently found guilty of breaking the BCCI's anti-corruption code, by not reporting the approaches when they happened, and was banned for one year in September 2013.
