Heavy overnight rain washed out the first ODI between India A and South Africa A at Motera in Ahmedabad without a ball being bowled.
Dhiraj Prasana, the curator, employed 70 labourers but the overcast conditions and intermittent rains during the past five days prevented the field from drying out. Even the super-sopper was also used but it was not enough in the end. Umpires AV Jayaprakash and CR Mohite inspected the ground at 10.30 am and concluded that there would be no improvement in the ground conditions.
India A were victorious in the two Tests by a margin of 1-0, after poor weather halted South Africa's ambitions of leveling the series in Dharamsala.
The second ODI will be played on September 28 in Baroda.
