SOUTH COAST PANEL of UMPIRES and SCORERS
Formed in 1985, at the request of the clubs in the league, it is independent of both leagues but has close contacts with them, taking an active part in administration and discipline. It expanded in 1987 to cover some Hampshire League games and reached its current size in 1991 when the link was formed between the two leagues. Panel members have strong connections with local umpires' associations and are represented on the Officiating Sub-Committee of the Hampshire Cricket Board and the boards of Dorset and Wiltshire.
With over 50 active members, 38 officials stand each week in the top 19 local matches with any extra umpires available for other matches. The Panel also supplies umpires for the evening SEC Cup and for friendly, competitive or representative matches both midweek and at weekends.
An innovation in 1998 was the 'Spirit of Fair Play' award for the team voted by the umpires as showing the best approach to the game during the season.
Membership is open to all full umpires members of the Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers, and also to those seeking field accreditation as part of full member qualifications. A marking system exists which allows the panel to appoint the most suitable umpires to the senior competition. Several members are on the Minor Counties list.
New members are always welcome and can be promised a full season of officiating.

In the event of inclement weather and the postponement of a fixture, the home club should notify the Umpires Appointments Secretary, Roy Harrison, on 01962 623560 (home) or 079 6718 8130 (mobile) as soon as possible. This, however, does not mean that decisions can be made early - play if you possibly can, particularly as matches can de determined over 25 overs.
